A side note

I just thought about something as I wrote the previous post today. It might be a bit off topic but connected to the topic nevertheless. Here are some reasons for abortion and they are very valid I must say:

  • Birth control (contraceptive) failure. Over half of all women who have an abortion used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant
  • Inability to support or care for a child.
  • To end an unwanted pregnancy.
  • To prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe medical problems. Such defects are often unknown until routine second-trimester tests are done.
  • Pregnancy resulting from rape or incest.
  • Physical or mental conditions that endanger the woman's health if the pregnancy is continued.
One thing comes to my mind though. All these are good reasons to abort a pregnancy but let's think about something for a moment.

There are a lot of excellent reasons to commit murder, very valid reasons in different circumstances but does that justify the act? If someone you love is murdered and the one who committed the act is not remorseful or repentent at all about the act, and you are bitter about it and feel justified to take the law into your hands, does that change the act of murder itself? You have killed with the intention of revenge and might be justified at it but does that make the act right because you were justified in how you felt about? Vengeance is a valid reason but it does not make the act right at all, as is written;

[19] Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
[20] Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
[21] Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:19-21.

I'm hoping that as we look at this issue of vengeance, it might shed more light on the issue of abortion. Just as it might be just to take vengeance into our hands or for the perpetrator of murder to pay for their deed, does it make the act right in itself? All these reasons are justifiable reasons to have an abortion but is it up to us to decide if another should live or die? All the above reasons for abortion are good reasons to have it done but so are those who feel justified that a murderer should pay for their deeds. But is it really up to us to decide in both cases, and to take matters into our own hands? I'm not here to say is either one right or wrong but to have us to think about these things for a moment. Just as vengeance is the Lord's, He gets to decide if one should live or not since He is the giver and taker of life, ultimately.

[21] And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. Job 1:21.

[28] For in him we live, and move, and have our being; Acts 17:28.

HE is the giver and taker of life, and in Him we live, move and have our being. Some say that a baby who has just started developing in the womb is not really a soul but according to the following verses it is:

[15] Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? Job 31:15.

[9] But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.
[
10] I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly. Psalms 22:9, 10.

[13] For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. Psalms 139:13.

[2] Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee;...Isaiah 44:2

[3] Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
[
4] And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:3, 4.

[4] Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[
5] Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:4, 5.

These are just some verse to show that God who creates us knows us from the womb before we are born. He who creates us and sustains us in the womb should be the one who gets to decide our fates.

Just some food for thought. I understand that this is a big topic but i would like us to dwell on what the Word says about these issues. His counsel is always the best. Just as we leave justifiable vengeance to Him, let us leave whether an unborn baby dies or lives to Him also.

Dealing with symptoms or going to the root of the problem?

I came across a news article today online about a pornstar who contracted AIDS and so there was a lot of commotion as the people are trying to figure out who this actor laid with between now and the possible time they contracted the dreaded disease, to prevent any further infection of other actors and actresses, and other people in general.

It got me thinking! I know this probably seems a bit far fetched but bear with me and see where I'm trying to go with this.

We have problems in society dealing with STDs, AIDS and abortion. Abortion is a big one that even can determine the turn of events in an election.

Imagine this: if as people we abstained from pre-marital sex and only engaged in sex when married, and would be faithful to that partner in marriage, we wouldn't have to worry about these above 3 problems. Think about it! No premarital sex, no abortions and even the STDs would be greatly eliminated. And if people had sex with only one partner, their spouses, they wouldn't even have to worry about STDs because both came into the marriage having not been with anybody else and if they stay faithful, definitely don't have a need to worry about contracting AIDS or STDs. Abortions are usually illtimed unwanted pregnancies, which is usually not likely with married couples.

These 3 examples I've given can be looked at as symptoms. We address the symptoms and spend billions trying to deal with them, but if we go back to how God had intended for things to be, we would not worry about these things at all. Most know He is right but would rather have it any other way.

God says do not murder, and don't fornicate or adulterate as we see in the next few verses:

[13] Thou shalt not kill.
[
14] Thou shalt not commit adultery.
[17] Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. Exodus 20:13,14 and 17.

[18] And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
[
19] Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
[
20] And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
[
21] For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
[
22] Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
[
23] All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Mark 7:18-23.

Murder would not have to be worried about in this case because no fornication or adultery, no abortion. No fornication, no abortion. Coveting someone else's spouse leads to adultery which in some cases also leads to murder as a result of an abortion of the unwanted pregnancy. No fornication or adultery, no STDs or AIDS to worry about. God's instructions to us are for our own good though most might not agree and if we took heed to them, we would avoid a lot of problems in society.

By abstinence until marriage, and faithfulness during marriage, a lot of debates and problems would be settled.  God has a better way but as people we want our way. We are medicating the symptoms of STDs, AIDS and abortion by doing anything but ignoring the solution which is abstinence pre-marriage and faithfulness during marriage.

Medicating the symptoms is done when we do anything but address the problem. We debate day and night whether it's right to abort or not, push safe sex instead of teaching abstinence or faithfulness in marriage. Yes its better to engage in safe sex if one does not want to abstain or be faithful, but isn't it better to do as God instructed and abstain and be faithful? I think it's better than all the time and money spent on alternative solutions which just medicate the issues but don't get rid of them.

The healing is simple and it involves going to the root of the problem: abstinence before marriage and faithfulness in marriage, and doing this, the 3 symptoms are gone because the problem has been truly addressed. Anything short of abstinence or faithfulness is just medicating the symptoms.

In the previous post I talked about us as people ignoring the solutions outright sometimes because they force us to change our lifestyles or how we look at things. In this particular case, people don't want to stop having sex before marriage or being faithful during marriage. Ignoring the problem and trying to come up with all kinds of solutions does not make the problem go away because we are addressing the symptoms not the cause. Sometimes addressing the cause of the problem is strange or even might appear radical because it is not the norm. Abstinence before marriage and faithfulness during marriage are viewed as ideals but not practical which makes them radical because they are not the norm. They are also seen as being restrictive but we all see that God knew why he gave us these instructions and that they are for our good whether we agree or not.

So the real problem is that we are going agaisnt God's instruction and that is sin. The real problem is the sin problem, of fornication and adultery. These things are so normal and acceptable that using the word sin stings a bit but it is true. It is sin according to God and not doing these things, truly addresses the problems as a result of them in society.

Just something to think about. This might be offensive to some but it is the truth and you know it.

What is healing

Welcome!

This is my first post and so learning the ropes as it were. Will be talking about health of the body and the soul and about me of course if it something of benefit to those who read

What comes to mind when asked the question, "what is health"? This might seem like a no-brainer but is it? What is health?

Is health in the pills we take when we have headaches? Is health in the surgery we have done to remove an organ or a disease process taking place in the body like cancer? When we do these things, what is the goal?

I ask all these questions so that you can take a moment to think about this. We are accustomed to taking pills when we have a headache or when we have a fever. When we do this, are we trying to return to health or what we think health is or we are trying to just alleviate the symptoms?

When a fever takes place, it is usually the body's way of responding to an infection. The fever response which involves raising the body's temperature aids the function of the White blood cells which are the body's defense against the infection which will be taking place in the body. Though the fever is uncomfortable, it is the body's default response designed to aid in fighting the infection. Thus in a "healthy" individual, the healthy response is the fever, and yet we try so hard to kill a fever not realizing that it is actually necessary to achieve a speedy recovery by allowing the body to better fight the infection. An "unhealthy" response of the body would be not to have a fever after contracting an infection. That means the body is not responding as it should.

So we realize from this example that health is not in feeling good because a fever doesn't feel good but it is the body's way of doing what it is supposed to do. By intervening when we try to stop a fever we are actually hindering a healthful response of the body to an infection. We are actually getting in the way when we do this. Now of course there are times we have to intervene, like when the fever gets out of hand threatening the life of the sick individual. But normally, this is the body's natural healthful response to an infection.

So from this so far we realize that a symptom is our friend because it is the manifestation of a compromise in our health, in this case it is the fever. The body's functioning as it should, when it should and how it should is health. If you get a serious infection and the body doesn't respond with a fever then it is responding abnormally by not responding at all. By not responding, there are no symptoms and so one does not even realize that there is a serious infection taking place.

What most of us do is that when we get symptoms, we take pills or something to deal with the symptoms because we think they are the problem. They are not the enemy but our friend because without them, we wouldn't know or realize we have a problem. The enemy is the problem that caused the symptoms to appear. The symptoms are just an extension of the problem. When the root cause of the problem is dealt with, the symptoms disappear. Most symptoms are uncomfortable and so it is only natural to respond by dealing with them. In other cases some might know what the cause is but it might be tied to a darling habit or lifestyle and so dealing with the problem would mean a change in lifestyle by dealing with the habit. Symptoms can be alleviated but the root is still there and won't go away. By dealing with the symptoms, we fool ourselves that the problem is gone, but it is just in hibernation or so it seems. By not dealing with the root cause the body then goes into a state of unhealth, though at first its response was healthy, or as should be because the symptoms showed up. But once the cause persists and is not dealt with, then one becomes unhealthy.

So a quick recap

  1. Health is when the body functions as it should as needed, when needed
  2. Symptoms are our best friend because they let us know something is going on in the body
  3. Symptoms are uncomfortable but most deal with symptoms instead of dealing with the "real problem", the cause of the symptoms
  4. Sometimes we knowingly don't deal with the symptoms because the cause is tied to a darling habit which we don't want to change
  5. Alleviating the symptoms doesn't mean the cause is gone
  6. if cause persists, the body then becomes unhealthy because the problem is not being dealt with

Enough for today but will continue next time.

God Bless
